Your First Class

What to wear? What to bring?

Congrats! You've registered and you're excited to get to your first class! We can't wait to welcome you.

Here's a helpful checklist of what to prepare for your first class:

  1. Please bring as little as possible with you to class. There are cubicles at the back of the studio to store your things. Nothing should be left on the dance floor.

  2. Remove your shoes and head to the dance floor.

  3. Bring a bottle of water. Stay hydrated!

  4. We recommend workout wear. Leggings/tank top is great.

  5. Footwear can be indoor-use track shoes, dance slippers or bare feet. If you have signed up for a class that features heels, please wear them every week to practice in.

Other helpful tips!

  • Introduce yourself to your Instructor. Let her know of any health or physical issues she should be aware of.

  • Get to know the other students! Before or after your class, take time to introduce yourself to those in your class.

  • Listen to your body and go at your own pace. This is important! If you need to sit out for any reason, feel free to take a short break whenever needed. There are benches at the front of the studio that you can sit on.

  • Everyone learns differently! We realize people learn at a different pace and in different ways. Your Instructor will always ask if there are questions so don't be shy if you're not understanding a move or a concept. She will be happy to break it down for you in a different way. Just ask! We love questions.

  • Classes always start with a warm-up and guided follow along with the Instructor. After that posture/alignment, arm and hand positions and technique breakdowns will be taught and practiced.  Students typically learn several moves and travelling steps in a lesson which are drilled and then eventually all glued together to create a short sequence which is then practiced for the last part of the class. Every week more choreography is added on to slowly build up to the full performance piece.
