FAQ BELLYDANCE
Do I have to show my stomach?
No, basic yoga clothing is sufficient for classes.
Do I have to wait for the start of a new session to sign up and start classes?
Yes, each class we will have builds onto the foundation movements from the weeks before. We have 4 sessions, Fall (10 week), Winter (10 week), Spring 1 (5 week), and Spring 2 (5 week).
I have some dance experience, so can I start at Improvers or advanced right away?
We prefer that all students, no matter what experience start at a beginner level. This will allow you to become familiar with proper technique and understanding of the movements.
What do I wear to class?
We recommend a t-shirt or tank top, leggings or Yoga pants, hip scarf with or without coins, socks or dance shoes. We carry a range of hips scarves for sale. No street shoes are permitted in the studio. Please leave them at the door.
How do I register?
We have set aside registration days as well as an early bird deadline for each semester. If you are unable to make it to our registration days and wish to pay the day of the class this is possible, though you will need to call or email us so that we can save you a spot, our classes fill up very quickly. We accept cash, cheque (made out to Ammena Dance Company), debit or credit card at the studio. Arrive 5-10 minutes early before your first class to complete a waiver form and register.
Can I pay by the class?
Absolutely. We offer a drop-in rate of $15.00 a class + GST for dance classes. Please keep in mind that when doing drop-in’s you may feel behind for we build onto the foundational movements each class.
What happens if I miss classes?
If you are registered for a specialty class and miss a class, then you can make it up when the same style of class is offered on another day. You can only make these classes up within that session time. There are no refunds on class registration unless it is because a class has not run.
How long will it take until I can belly dance?
That depends on you and how much time you can devote to practice. After 10 weeks of classes you'll know some basic movements that you can use to make small basic combinations. If you want to perform we have a show at the Yates Memorial Centre each year for you to perform group choreography.
Will I get a good workout from belly dancing?
Yes, bellydance is a wonderful core workout great for toning and sculpting. Belly dance will improve your posture and poise and build your stamina.
Can I belly dance if I'm pregnant?
No, you should wait until after you have had your child.
